In refurbishing and extending this listed London house, we created a range of new spaces to complement the owner’s lives. A series of small dark rooms on the lower ground floor were combined to create a large light family room. This room opens into a new oak and glass extension, which sits like a classical pavilion in the garden. A specially designed casket-like work ‘island’ in the kitchen acts as a focus for family life, underneath which a new subterranean concrete and stone wine cellar can be glimpsed through a panel of glass in the floor. A new double-height hall greets visitors, giving views straight through into the garden.
