Granville Road

ARA successfully won planning and listed building consent for a significant extension to this unusual and accomplished Arts & Crafts house in Kent. This will provide a new kitchen and dining room opening onto the garden, with an en-suite bathroom above, held between billowing curved roofs. Our design picks up on the powerfully symmetrical end gable of the existing house, proposing a central chimney to match the existing pair – this new chimney is in part a ‘light-chimney’, bringing sunlight from a high-level window into the new spaces of the extension. These spaces have curving ceilings and large glazed doors to the garden.
